A big hello to all the art lovers, connoisseurs, art students, art buyers, art collectors, art supporters and art enthusiasts!
This Sunday was made special with a trip to this awe-inspiring & tightly curated affair, called the India Art Fair. It was a selective mix of local & international galleries, established & newly discovered artists. There were works of 7 ‘National Treasures’ of Indian art, mixed media artworks, installations, sculptures, and a playful mix of materials. Then there was the coming together of art & textile! With so much creativity under one roof, it was no less than a wonderland. From mighty drawings, to intense portraitures, steel sculptures to feathery installations, everything pulled me closer and closer and got me thinking and rethinking.
I didn’t click pictures this time, i was so absorbed by art. To tell you the truth, I left my camera behind, on purpose. My objective was clear, I wanted nothing to pull me back to reality, I just wanted to get carried away! I’m sure you would have googled ‘Art on display at IAF 2016’ to catch glimpses of same.
As the fifth most attended fair in the world comes to a close I must bring to you what was so amazing about it this year!
There was a new program called ‘Platform’ to showcase young emerging artists, art spaces and collectives from Southeast Asia. A big round of applause for that!
For the first time, DAG Modern through its project Abhas gave art lovers, both the sighted and the visually impaired, an experience to touch and feel art through its tactile aid. Quite thoughtful and innovative.
One of the major head turners at the event was the gorgeous Art Car by BMW, the official partner at India Art Fair 2016. As part of their ‘rolling sculptures’ initiative, on display was automobile major’s tenth car – the BMW730i Art Car designed by Spanish artist César Manrique in 1990. I wanted to bring it home for my 7 year old! *Grin*

On another note, it looks like IAF has been a grand grand success this year! And that makes me Extremely (with a capital ‘E’) happy! Read This
At an event like India Art Fair, the air of easy formality kind of settles into you. And most importantly this post would be incomplete if I do not express gratitude to Seema Pandey, she made me feel like a VIP.
One day at IAF, and I’m dying with so much art in my heart! I’m highly inspired, mix media is definitely something I’m going to explore! It is going to be so much fun, wonder what makes me so sure to say that!
Hopefully you didn’t miss this big event. I’m looking forward to share notes with you. What did you like about it, what inspired you, what feelings did you have, did you fall in love at first sight or was it just an impression that would stay etched in your memory forever!
Do comment away!
Love, Ana 🙂
